Religious Leaders are people too, and are subject to the same temptations and weaknesses as any other person. In fact, these leaders experience more stress than the average person due to their significant responsibilities, and this stress can manifest itself in various forms.
Here are some issues that polygraph examiners can help address when the actions of religious leaders are called into question. These exams are often conducted in connection with a Treatment Program.
It must be noted that Federal EPPA regulations, which govern employment related testing in the United States, still applies. In the United States, it is illegal for an employer to request that an employee submit to a polygraph except for issues of financial loss. However, this does not prevent therapists from requiring polygraph exams for Religious Leaders who are undergoing treatment, or from the Religious Leader submitting to a polygraph exam of his/her own volition.
