DOES GPN WORK WITH INTERPRETERS?

Yes. All GPN members are trained to work with Interpreters.

WHO PROVIDES THE INTERPRETER FOR A POLYGRAPH?

The Client (customer) must provide the interpreter at his/her own expense. This is not included in the exam fee.  However, the Examiner will often be able to help the Client find a suitable Interpreter.

DOES THE INTERPRETER HAVE TO BE PHYSICALLY PRESENT?

Yes. This process can not be done remotely or virtually. Working with the Examiner, the Interpreter will first write down all the questions to be asked in the test. Then, during the actual testing phase, the Examiner will point to the question to be asked, and the Interpreter then asks the question to the Examinee. The Examiner will not be asking the questions. The questions written by the Interpreter will be included with the final report.

WHAT LANGUAGES DOES MY GPN EXAMINER SPEAK?

Each individual testing location page on the GPN website provides the local Examiner’s credentials, including the languages he or she speaks fluently.  If the person being tested does not speak any of these languages fluently, an Interpreter will be needed at this location.

HOW DO I FIND AN INTERPRETER?

Google is the easiest way. Simply search for “interpreter” and (language) and (city) for results in a particular area. For example, if you need a Russian interpreter in Chicago, you would search for “Russian interpreter Chicago” for the results. Then, the company needs to be contacted to verify they have interpreters available to work on-site.  However, the Examiner will often be able to help the Client find a suitable Interpreter.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS MUST THE INTERPRETER HAVE?

1. The interpreter must be impartial, and have no interest in the outcome of the exam.
2. The interpreter can not be personally acquainted with the Examinee.
3. The interpreter must be able to speak, understand, and write in both languages used.
4. The interpreter must be prepared for sequential (not simultaneous) translating.
5. Some Examiners will require a Court Certified interpreter to be used.

HOW MUCH DOES AN INTERPRETER CHARGE?

This varies greatly.  Most Interpreters usually charge between 50 to 100 USD by the hour. The Interpreter can expect to be working with the Examiner from 3 to 4 hours.

CAN THE CLIENT ACT AS INTERPRETER?

No. The client’s presence in the exam room will significantly affect the results of the exam.

WILL USING AN INTERPRETER AFFECT THE RESULTS?

If done correctly and professionally, the use of an interpreter will have little affect on the results of the exam. Failing to fully understand a question will have a much greater effect.
